Last night, the PitchBlak Rhythm section (Ben Brody, Chris Johnson, myself, and Chanell Crichlow) got together for a little sectional. We are heading to the west coast for the first time in August, so we want to be sure the band is as tight as possible, and that starts with us. We fleshed out a few problem spots in existing tunes, worked on the groove for some new rep we will introduce on that tour, and most importantly, really focused on listening to each other. It's amazing what you can accomplish in just two hours together!
In the Studio: Love/Hate NYC
/I'm delighted to be working on Trumpet Grrrl's newest single, Love/Hate NYC. We hit up Eusonia Studios (where we also tracked Rain Boots) to work with Grammy-winning producer, Scott Jacoby. Here's a short clip I took while listening back to some of our session.

Philly, Frostburg, Syracuse
/Had a blast playing for the first time in Philadelphia (unless my Curtis audition counts), returning to Frostburg (the motherland), and opening for Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds in Syracuse this weekend. Here's a pic from Tuba Fresh from Long Branch Jam.

Pregnancy Pact Videos

In May, I had the opportunity to work with composer Julia Meinwald on a concert setting of her musical Pregnancy Pact at 54 below. I found all of her songs to be well-written and full of some serious ear candy. Check out this video of Phoebe Strole (Glee; Spring Awakening) singing "This Is It." The whole show is up on Youtube if you're so inclined!
